Regenerative medicine involves the use of the body's own cells to help promote the healing of damaged tissues and reduce pain.

The procedure often involves using your pet's own cells such as Stem Cells and Platelets and injecting them into damaged tissues and joints.

The most common uses are for diseases such as osteoarthritis, tendon injuries and post-operatively after joint and bone surgeries.

We are able to offer these advanced treatments to our patients providing them with a long-lasting treatment to alleviate pain and reduce their reliance on potentially damaging medications.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Stem Cell FAQs

Innovative regenerative treatments are now available at Max and Min Vets to help heal damaged tissues and alleviate pain -including PRP, BMC, PC and DogStem

01

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) consists of concentrated platelets and growth factors that promote healing and regeneration of injured tissues. PRP is derived from your pet's own blood and is 100% natural. PRP injections are an increasingly popular alternative to surgery and addictive medications.

03

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine involves the use of the body's own cells and healing factors to help promote the healing of damaged tissues, reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.

It often involves the use of stem cells, PRP and protein concentrate by injecting them into damaged tissues and joints.

05

Why choose regenerative therapies?

- Natural and minimally invasive procedure

- Reduce the need for major surgery

- Reduce the reliance on pain medication

- Speed up healing of damaged tissues

07

What is the recovery?

We normally recommend a 4-12 week recovery program after either PRP or Stem Cell therapy.

Controlled activity is important to give the treatments time to work.

There is often pain in the injection sites for 24-48hrs after injection.

02

What are Stem Cells?

Stem cells are the body’s master cells and are responsible for cell recruitment. They are undifferentiated cells that have the ability to transform into a variety of different cells and replace dying cells, and the potential of rebuilding damaged tissue, muscles, tendons or ligaments. Stem cells are derived from your pet's own bone marrow or fat deposit (adipose).

04

What can it be used for?

Regenerative medicine can be used to help with:

â–  Osteoarthritis
â–  Acute Injuries
â–  Pain Conditions
â–  Tendon Conditions
â–  Ligament Injuries

â–  Wounds & Trauma
â–  Damaged Joints
â–  Joint Degeneration
â–  Corneal Ulcers
â–  Post Surgical Healing

06

What is the process?

PRP is manufactured by harvesting a blood sample from your pet into a special collection kit and then centrifuging at a high speed to isolate the growth factors and platelets.

Stem cells are gathered from either bone marrow or fat and are then concentrated.

The PRP or Stem Cells are then injected directly into the joints by aseptic injection.

This is all performed in a single visit.

08

How long does it last for?

PRP treatment can last for up to 18 months.

We often recommend a second PRP injection 6 weeks after the first to help extend its longevity.

Stem Cell Therapy is often just a one-off treatment. However, a top-up can be given in the future if needed.
